THING 6

OK -- This was REALLY fun! I went to Big Huge Lab & decided to make a Pocket Photo Album. Importing the pictures was easy -- deciphering the folding instructions for the 8.5" x 11" paper gave me pause BUT! I got it! So now I've created a pocket album w/pic from a family event that I shall distribute at our family reunion in July to amuse & amaze all my kith & kin.

AND THEN!! There was information about a PocketMod which is a small book made from another 8.5" x 11" piece of paper. It's a joy for someone (like me) who is addicted to lists & notes. I intend to start the school year w/a lesson about this for Library Club.

As an ancillary teacher, I see every student each week on a M-T-W schedule; then I repeat M on Th & T on F. Library Club was started last year & involves library activities other than checking out books. It has really worked well at Gordon-HISD because conduct on M-T-W determine whether a class is able to participate in Library Club. Activities include reading magazines, playing games (both computer & board), and browsing through reference books.
This year, I want to emphasize doing things that Life-Long Learners need to do and know. I may even call it Life-Long Learners Library Club.

THING 5

FLICKR FLICKR FLICKR! Handy spot for pictures but I'm not overly interested in using it alot. I just don't get excited about taking pictures. HOWEVER -- I am glad that I have been to the site & have used it so that I can add a wonderful picture of Texas bluebonnets to my blog. Aren't we glad we live in Texas?

HURRAY!! Mary Jane & I together are smarter than this computer that's trying to frustrate me! My daughter, Mj (The Dancing Librarian)is my mentor. She has completed THING #6 so she helps when I don't know what to do. I think I have completed THING #3. Except my eyes blink on avatars.yahoo.com & they don't here. Oh, well. I am here!

THING 3

I don't think I created my blog correctly because I never was asked to create an avatar & I want to create an avatar. I need to figure out how to make an avatar & put it on my blog. But I do have a blog & you are reading it now.

THING 2

In THING 2, I am to respond about the easiest and hardest things for me from 7 1/2 HABITS so here goes:

EASIEST: Accepting responsibility for my own learning. This isn't a problem for me because I love challenges and learning new things. I think that the fact that I started a new facet of my career at age 62 instead of retiring is proof of this. I haven't kept up w/the techie things that I'll learn in this program because I don't have a practical application for them. I trust that I'll learn enough that I'll be able to apply what I've learned.

HARDEST: Using technology to my advantage. I don't always take the time to update my skills; if I can accomplish a task -- even if it's not the best way to complete it -- I'll just do things the old way.

I do consider myself a Life-long Learner & am trying to create a way to inspire my students to become captivated w/their ability to LEARN!!

First Attempt at a BLOG

Well, I wonder how I'm going to do??? I'm pleased to start this project of 23 THINGS & have every intention of completing it. But LIFE has a way of changing plans, you know?

I do want to stay up-to-date in THINGS technologically -- so we'll see where I am on August 10 --which will be my 65th birthday.
